Spatial-Space
This is to do with space such as the setting and the location of filming
Relation between and manipulation of different points through simularity, difference and development.
Continuity editing produces 'analytical' space via an establishing shot, followed by a mid shot which is a smaller shot.
'Kuleshov effect' there is no establishing shot therefore only parts of the shot are seen.
Temporal- Time
This is to do with the time of the action and adds to the plots story time-order, duration and frequency.
Order of presentation of events can be manipulated- so changes story and plot relations which interrupt 'temporal order'.
E.G. flashbacks increase story knowledge and flash forwards creating enigma.
Duration- of story events within the plot can be altered via use of ellipsis. E.G. 'punctuation' shot change e.g. dissolve.
Graphic-
Draws upon 'pictorial qualities' found within mise-en-scene. E.G. patterns of light and dark, fine and sharpe, volume and depth etc...
Graphic continuity
'centre of interest throughout cuts, maintaining lighting level, avoiding strong colour clashes'.
Graphic discontinuity-
plays with juxtaposition of placement of focus figures, contrasts with colour and footage types and movement and stillness.
Rhythmic-
make it flow for a narrative by making sure each clip is the same duration.
Music video-keep to beat of music, make dips longer and shorter.
